Margaret
Named after Dr. Margaret Collins.
By 1996, the Insectarium in the Cayman Islands had developed extensive, though still incomplete, collections of various insect species, including Hawk moths, beetles, Shore-flies, Hemipteran bugs, and butterflies. These collections were significantly enhanced by contributions from several entomologists from the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. These experts played a crucial role in expanding the knowledge of the islands' insect fauna and continued their involvement through the Visiting Scientist's Programme.
One particularly notable contribution came from the late Dr. Margaret Collins, a termite specialist. Between 1990 and 1995, Dr. Collins made significant strides in filling a major gap in the scientific understanding of the Cayman Islands' termite species. Her work was pivotal in cataloguing these species, providing a deeper understanding of the islands' biodiversity and enhancing the overall collection and research capabilities of the Insectarium.
1. **Durability**: Stainless steel is highly durable, corrosion-resistant, and strong, making it an excellent base material for jewelry.
2. **PVD Gold Plating**: The 18K PVD gold plating process bonds gold to the stainless steel at a molecular level. This method ensures that the gold color is long-lasting and resistant to tarnishing, fading, and scratches. The PVD process creates a coating that is more durable than traditional gold plating techniques.
3. **Waterproof**: Since the jewelry is made from stainless steel, it is resistant to water and can be worn while swimming or showering without rusting or corroding.
Overall, this combination results in jewelry that is both aesthetically pleasing and highly durable, ensuring it maintains its appearance for several years with proper care.
